April 27th 2020

This article talks about the best golf courses in Iceland and what makes them special.

Before I start planning my international golf trips I always want to know what the best golf courses are in the country or the area I will be visiting.

Now, you may be thinking about traveling for a golf trip to Iceland and your question is: What are the best golf courses in Iceland?

Here is your answer:

According to https://worldgolfawards.com there was one winner and six nominees for the best golf course in Iceland, 2019. Here below you can see the following golf courses, and what makes them special.

2019 Winner:

Keilir golf course

A unique golf course layout that includes lava golf on the front nine and links golf on the back nine.

2019 Nominees:

Akureyri golf course

Akureyri golf course is the world’s most northerly 18 hole golf course according to the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews. It is a moorland course with a beautiful parkland layout

Akranes golf course

Akranes golf course is a beautiful golf course built on a rather flat land. The course includes well-placed hazards, trees and rocky hills that come into play if you miss fairways which makes the course very demanding and interesting at the same time

Oddur golf course

A beautiful heathland golf course surrounded by Búrfells volcanic lava.

Grafarholt golf course

The oldest 18 hole golf course in Iceland, has a fabulous golf layout and has hosted many high quality golf tournaments.

Sudurnes golf course

It has a linked layout and is placed by the seaside on the Reykjanes peninsula. The course is famous for its good course condition.

Westman Island golf course

The most picturesque golf course in all of Iceland. With that being said, it has a fantastic layout and is regarded by many Icelandic golfers as their favorite golf course in Iceland. Bring your camera with you for this one.

Finally

The golf courses mentioned above are all of high-quality and I recommend that you play at least one of them when you visit Iceland.

With that being said, there are two golf courses that I would like to add to the list from https://worldgolfawards.com/award/iceland-best-golf-course/2019.

The first golf course is:

Brautarholt golf course

“Wow” will more than likely be your use of words as you step on the first tee. Although the golf course has only 12 holes it is considered to be one of the most scenic and most memorable golf course in Iceland.

The other golf course is:

Korpa golf course

A fantastic golf layout and is considered by many the best competitive golf course in Iceland.

I hope this blog helps you as you start planning your golf trip to Iceland.
